Obie winner Stevie Walker-Webb, director of Broadway's Ain't No Mo', has joined the creative team of the new musical Gun & Powder.
Following a 2020 run at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, industry reading presentations of the musical will be offered December 15-16 in Manhattan. Walker-Webb will direct.
Featuring book and lyrics by Angelica Ch茅ri and music by Ross Baum, Gun & Powder is inspired by the true story of Mary and Martha Clarke鈥擜frican American twins鈥攚ho passed for white to help settle their mother鈥檚 sharecropper debt and seize the funds by any means necessary.
Solea Pfeiffer (Almost Famous) and Emmy Raver-Lampman (The Umbrella Academy) starred as the Clarke sisters in Signature Theatre鈥檚 world premiere under the direction of Robert O'Hara. Casting for the reading has not been announced.

鈥�Gun & Powder asks us to strap up, grab the bull by the horns, and ride head on into the unknown possibilities and fears of our shadow selves: the parts of us we are too afraid to admit,鈥� says Walker-Webb.
Walker-Webb also directed the Public Theater production of Ain鈥檛 No Mo鈥�, receiving an Obie Award. Also a playwright, his work has been produced by American Civil Liberties Union, The New Group, Cherry Lane, Zara Aina, Woolly Mammoth, Baltimore Center Stage, La Mama, and Theatre of the Oppressed-NYC.
