Pulitzer-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar's most recent Broadway play McNeal has joined the Dramatists Play Service catalogue for worldwide licensing. DPS is an imprint of Broadway Licensing Global.
The work made its debut via Lincoln Center Theater on Broadway last year, with Robert Downey Jr. starring as Jacob McNeal, a celebrated author fixated on artificial intelligence鈥攁nd the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature. Speaking of A.I., the production also featured a highly realistic metahuman digital likeness of Downey, developed by film production company AGBO.
鈥淎yad Akhtar鈥檚 work is always fearless, always compelling, and McNeal is no exception,鈥 says BLG Chief Executive Officer Ted Chapin in a statement. 鈥淭his is a play that challenges, provokes, and mesmerizes, and we are honored to bring it into the Dramatists Play Service catalog.鈥
鈥淎khtar鈥檚 exploration of the intersection between literature and technology is both timely and profound," adds Chief Operating Officer Dan Markley. "We look forward to seeing McNeal resonate with audiences across the theatrical landscape.鈥
McNeal joins a catalogue already including Akhtar's The Who & The What, Junk, The Invisible Hand, and his Pulitzer-winning Disgraced.
