Bebe Neuwirth to Announce Nominees for 2024 Chita Rivera Awards

Two-time Tony winner Bebe Neuwirth, back on Broadway in the current revival of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, will announce the nominees for the 2024 Chita Rivera Awards April 29 at 1 PM ET on ABC News鈥� GMA3: What You Need to Know.

Named for the late Broadway icon, the Chita Rivera Awards鈥攕et for May 20 at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts鈥攃elebrate dance and choreographic excellence: past, present, and future. Through education and scholarships, the awards are also committed to nurturing future generations, as well as preserving notable dance history.

Nominators will consider outstanding choreography, featured dancers, and ensembles in productions on Broadway and Off-Broadway as well as outstanding choreography in film during the 2023-2024 season. Nominations will be determined by the designated nominating committees.

鈥淲hile the theatre and dance communities continue to mourn the loss of Chita, we are looking at this year鈥榮 awards as a celebration of love, life, and of her legacy,鈥� said Joe Lanteri, founder and executive director of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation, Inc., which produces the annual awards in conjunction with Patricia Watt. 鈥淐hita鈥檚 performances on and off the stage have touched so many people, and we have special surprises in store at this year鈥檚 awards. We also couldn鈥檛 be more thrilled that Bebe will be announcing our nominations on GMA3 on April 29.鈥�

The Awarding Committee includes Sylviane Gold, Gary Chryst, Robert LaFosse, Donna McKechnie, Wendy Perron, and Lee Roy Reams, and Desmond Richardson. The Broadway Nominating Committee comprises Wendy Federman, Melinda Atwood, Caitlin Carter, Gary Chryst, Don Correia, Jamie deRoy, Sandy Duncan, Peter Filichia, Dr. Louis Galli, Sylviane Gold, Jonathan Herzog, Jim Kierstead, Robert La Fosse, Joe Lanteri, Donna McKechnie, Michael Milton, Mary Beth O'Connor, Wendy Perron, Lee Roy Reams, Desmond Richardson, Andy Sandberg, and Randy Skinner. Jonathan C. Herzog, Steven Caras, Wilhelmina Frankfurt, Mary Beth O鈥機onnor, and Andy Sandberg make up the Film Nominating Committee.

All proceeds of the Chita Rivera Awards benefit the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation Scholarship Program. This year, all funding and proceeds will support the creation of a new Chita Rivera Training Scholarship.
