The lights of the Majestic, Marquis, and St. James Theatres will dim May 20 in memory of Broadway producer and general manager Alan Wasser, who died April 14, 2019. The marquees will go dark for exactly one minute beginning at 6:45 PM.
Each of the theatres was significant in his career. The founder and chairman of Alan Wasser Associates built a career in theatrical general management, tour booking, and tour marketing and counts all three Les Mis茅rables and The Phantom of the Opera touring productions鈥攑lud two touring productions of Miss Saigon鈥�among his many tours.
鈥淎lan Wasser鈥攊n his work on Cameron Mackintosh鈥檚 global hits鈥攊nnovated ways to produce theatre at a higher level and a greater scale than had ever been possible before. But, foremost, he was loved for his generosity and 22 years ago I became one of the many Alan welcomed to Broadway with counsel and friendship,鈥� said Thomas Schumacher, Chairman of The Broadway League, in a statement. 鈥淗e was an extraordinary theatrical manager and an even better friend.鈥�
Wasser went on to form Foresight Theatrical, which continues to provide executive producing, general managing, booking, press, and other theatrical resources for stage productions. Foresight served as general manager for the Tony Awards from 2009-2012. Wasser was a member of the Broadway League for 30 years, serving as a board member and executive committee member for 23 years.
In 2017, the Tony Awards Administration Committee presented Mr. Wasser and fellow general manager Nina Lannan the 2017 Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre.
Some of Mr. Wasser鈥檚 additional Broadway credits include: Kinky Boots, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, Mary Poppins, Grey Gardens, and Seussical.
