Second Stage Theater announced that the January 12 performance of Appropriate on Broadway has been cancelled due to illness. Ticket holders for the 7 PM performance have been directed to contact their point of purchase for next steps.
Sarah Paulson, who is currently starring in the production, shared via Instagram stories that she has tested positive for COVID. "So sorry to not be able to perform this extraordinary play, with our incredible company," the actor wrote. She later wrote in another Instagram stories post that, "I will be out of the show for the rest of the weekend. And it breaks my heart."
Appropriate has not cancelled performances for January 13 and 14. Paulson's understudy on the show is Tina Benko.
The work by opened December 18 at the Hayes Theater after beginning performances November 29. The production marks Jacobs-Jenkins' Broadway playwriting debut, following a credit in 2022 for contributing additional material to Lincoln Center Theater's revival of Thornton Wilder's The Skin of Our Teeth. is directing.
