New York's Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC) has announced the lineup and creative teams for its upcoming season, which coincides with the 150th anniversary of the Chautauqau Institution.
Directed by Arya Shahi, Noah Haidle鈥檚 Birthday Candles will open the season, with previews beginning July 5 before a July 9 opening night. The production will run through July 21. The creative team will include scenic designer Brittany Vasta, costume designer Afsaneh Aayani, lighting designer Anshuman Bhatia, sound designer Ben Truppin-Brown, with original compositions by Jane Lui.
Second will be Lynn Nottage鈥檚 Fabulation, or The Re-Education of Undine, which will be directed by Candis C. Jones. Previews will begin July 27, with its opening set for July 30. The production will run through August 4, and feature Brittany Vasta鈥檚 scenic design, Azalea Fairley鈥檚 costume design, Anshuman Bhatia鈥檚 lighting design, and DJ Potts鈥檚 sound design.
Lastly, the world premiere of Kate Hamill鈥檚 The Light and The Dark (the life and times of Artemisia Gentileschi) will close the season under the direction of CTC鈥檚 own producing artistic director, Jade King Carroll. Previews wil begin on August 10, with the opening set for August 1. The production will run through August 23, and feature scenic design by Brittany Vasta, costume design by Jen Caprio, lighting design by Anshuman Bhatia, sound design by Fan Zhang, and projection design by S Katy Tucker. Hamill鈥檚 longtime collaborator, Kristin Leahey, will also join the team as dramaturg.
