Matthew Lombardo's new play When Playwrights Kill will hold two private industry readings June 19 in NYC, with Noah Himmelstein directing.
The work centers on an aspiring playwright suffering through a disastrous out of town try-out with an insane star leading the cast. When all other options seem untenable, he decides saving this play might just involve murdering its leading lady.
SAG Award winner Chris Perfetti (of the hit sitcom Abbott Elementary) will lead the cast as playwright Jack Hawkins. Beth Leavel (currently in Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends) will play difficult leading lady Brooke Remington, Kevin Chamberlin (Disaster!) will play director Oliver Kendall Walker, Christopher Fitzgerald (currently in Death Becomes Her) will play producer Freddie Carlton, and Tony winner Bonnie Milligan (Kimberly Akimbo) will play production stage manager Liz Jennings, and Tomas Matos (Hadestown) will play drug-dealing prompter Tobias Deschanel.
Bryan McCaffrey is producing, and casting is by nick Peciaro. Chris Catti will be production stage manager.
