David Sabella, who originated the role of Mary Sunshine in the Tony-winning revival of Chicago, will be part of the 15th Annual Fresh Fruit Festival, which runs July 10鈥�23 at The Wild Project (195 E. 3rd St).
Sabella will head the cast of Doug DeVita鈥檚 award-winning The Phillie Trilogy, which begins performances July 19. Dennis Corsi directs. The play examines homophobia through the eyes of its title character, Philip 鈥淧hillie鈥� McDougal, over the course of more than 40 years.
Sabella, playing both the grown up Phillie, and his father, Pete McDougal, will lead a cast that also includes Carole Monferdini, Daniel G. Cunningham, Karen Irwin, Terri Kelsey, and Maeve Press, with Bonale Fambrini as Phillie.
The Fresh Fruit Festival is presented by All Out Arts to celebrate the LGBTQ community鈥檚 unique perspective, creativity and diversity, and to build links between the LGBTQ artistic communities, local or international. Attendees can expect a mix of full-length plays, musicals, short works, and cabaret.
Other titles include Do You Dream In Spanish?, featuring Roberto Araujo and his trio; the musical La Maupin, with book and direction by Jessica Field and music by Jared Field; All Mixed Up, by John J. Enright with direction by Rob Belchere; Patrick McCarthy's Custody, with direction by Patrick Aran; and The Diplomats, by Nelson Diaz-Marcano with direction by Blayze Teicher.
