Keen Company has revealed casting for its upcoming world premiere Adam Gwon musical All the World鈥檚 a Stage, playing the Off-Broadway company March 25鈥揗ay 10 and officially opening April 15. Artistic Director Jonathan Silverstein is directing, his final production before his 12-year tenure leading the company comes to an end with the completion of this current season.
The cast will include Eliza Pagelle in her NYC stage debut as Sam, Jon-Michael Reese (A Strange Loop) as Michael, Matt Rodin (Company) as Ricky, and Elizabeth Stanley (Jagged Little Pill) as Dede. Casting is by Geoff Joselson.
The musical, a Keen Company commission, follows a small-town math teacher coaching a misfit student for the 1996 State Thespian Convention whose carefully compartmentalized life starts to fray thanks to a devout school secretary.
The production will feature music direction by Andrea Grody, movement by Patrick McCollum, orchestrations by Michael Starobin, scenic design by Steven C. Kemp, costume design by Jennifer Paar, lighting design by David Lander, sound design by Megumi Katayama, and prop design by Thomas Jenkeleit.
鈥淚鈥檓 overjoyed to work with this incredible cast, and tell this story, inspired by the teachers who changed my life," says Gwon in a statement. "This show is what I wish I鈥檇 had as a teenager, and what I discovered I need right now: a story about the courage to be seen, and the transformative power of seeing others in return. I鈥檓 grateful to Keen Company for assembling this team and giving us the chance to share it.鈥
鈥淭o say I am thrilled to premiere Adam Gwon鈥檚 new work is an understatement," adds Silverstein. "Ever since producing and directing Keen鈥檚 first-ever intimate musical, Sondheim鈥檚 Marry Me a Little, in 2012, I have dreamed of commissioning and premiering a new intimate musical, and throughout the years that dream began to include doing so with the incredibly gifted Adam Gwon. Adam has written a beautiful, timely, and emotionally impactful new musical that is not only truly Keen but is a gift to theatres far outside of New York City, and its themes of showing up as your authentic self is particularly personal to me. We have assembled an extraordinary team to bring it to life, and I cannot wait to invite audiences in to witness this brand-new musical together!"
