Tony and Oscar nominee Ethan Hawke and Golden Globe nominee Paul Dano are set to star in a new Broadway production of Sam Shepard鈥檚 Pulitzer Prize-nominated play True West, directed by James Macdonald. The revival will play a limited engagement in the American Airlines Theatre beginning December 27.

True West will officially open January 24, 2019. Further casting and a creative team will be announced at a later date.

In True West, two brothers鈥攐ne, a moderately successful screenwriter (Dano), the other, a drifter (Hawke)鈥攔eunite to discuss their mother's recently abandoned house, leading to the airing of old resentments and some unexpected twists in the relationship.

The play debuted on Broadway in 2000 with stars John C. Reilly and Philip Seymour Hoffman swapping roles nightly. The production received four Tony Award nominations: nods to both alternating stars, director Matthew Warchus, and Best Play.

Tony nominee and four-time Oscar nominee Hawke worked extensively with the late Shepard, the prolific, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright who . The two friends collaborated both on the stage and screen. Hawke鈥檚 film credits include Boyhood, Julie Delpy鈥檚 Before Midnight and Before Sunset, and Training Day, among many others. He recently produced, co-wrote, and directed the movie Blaze. Hawke also acted alongside Dano on the film Taking Lives and directed the actor onstage in Things We Want.

Dano made his Broadway debut at age 10 in the 1995 revival of A Month in the Country starring Helen Mirren. His other Broadway credits include Inherit the Wind and A Free Man of Color; on screen he is known for his performances in 12 Years a Slave, There Will Be Blood, and Love & Mercy, among other films and TV series.

Macdonald鈥檚 theatre credits include the recent West End and Broadway hit play The Children, Top Girls (also on Broadway), Escaped Alone, Cloud Nine, Love and Information, and many more.
