The New York premiere of Tanya Saracho鈥檚 behind-the-scenes comedy Fade officially opens February 8 at the Cherry Lane Theatre, produced by Primary Stages. The new Off-Broadway work by the playwright and screenwriter follows the friendship between Lucia and Abel, two Latinos of Mexican descent working at a ruthless Hollywood studio.
Fade is directed by Jerry Ruiz (Basilica) and stars Annie Dow (Song for the Disappeared) as TV writer Lucia and Eddie Martinez (Sense8) as Abel, the studio janitor. Performances began January 25 and are scheduled to continue through March 5.
Here is how the Off-Broadway company bills the new play: 鈥淟ucia is a tenacious novelist, newly hired to write for a TV detective series and struggling to find her place among a team of domineering white male co-workers. Abel is one of the studio鈥檚 janitors, compassionate to Lucia鈥檚 difficulties and generous with his opinions and personal anecdotes, which keeps them in an absorbing t锚te-脿-t锚te throughout their workdays. As their bond grows, Abel鈥檚 stories quickly blur with those Lucia is writing for the show and they both find themselves in the center of their own not-quite-made-for-TV drama.鈥�
