First Look at Oedipus El Rey at the Public Theater

Oedipus El Rey, a new drama by Luis Alfaro, is set to open October 24 at the Public Theater in collaboration with The Sol Project. The Off-Broadway staging, directed by Chay Yew, stars Juan Castano as Oedipus, re-imagined as a troubled Latino living in South Central Los Angeles.

Billed as “an electrifying new take on the Greek tragedy,�� Oedipus El Rey follows a young man struggling to control his own destiny. The play weaves a tale of love, family, and belief to ask, “What’s fate, and what’s just the system?��
