The Harlem Reperatory Theatre will present Harold Arlen, Yip Harburg, and Tony nominee Fred Saidy鈥檚 Jamaica in honor of its 60th anniversary. The show will officially open July 29 and is set to run through March 24 at The Tato Laviera Theatre.

Jamaica follows Savannah, an ambitious island girl in hopes of escaping to New York and finding true love. The production looks closely at how an isolated island community navigates the perils of love, family, and relationships while they confront the increasing pressures of American commercialism, class struggles, and racism.

The original book by Harburg and Saidy has been adapted by Tony nominee Art Perlman (Finian鈥檚 Rainbow) with lyrics by Harburg and orchestrations by Arlen, whose works include the iconic 鈥淥ver the Rainbow.鈥 Keith Lee Grant (Sweeney Todd) directs and choreographs.

The cast of Jamaica features Taylor-Rey Rivera, Barbyly No毛l, Corean Robinson, Dexter Thomas-Payne, Daniel Fergus Tamulonis, Derrick Montalvado, and Jason Johnson.
