Tony Awards Harvey Fierstein to Receive Lifetime Achievement Special Tony Award

Already a four-time Tony winner, Fierstein holds medallion statuettes for his work on Torch Song Trilogy, La Cage aux Folles, and Hairspray.

This year's Tony Awards will honor four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein with the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. The annual honor recognizes titans of the industry, with past recipients including George C. Wolfe, Chita Rivera, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Jerry Herman, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, Joel Grey, and Terrence McNally.

Nominees in the competitive categories will be announced May 1, beginning with a selection of categories on CBS Mornings at 8:30 AM ET and continuing with a full list, revealed by Tony winner Sarah Paulson and Wendell Pierce, streaming at 9 AM ET. 半岛体育 will be live that morning to bring the latest in commentary, reactions, and more.

Winners will be named at The 78th Annual Antoinette Perry Awards June 8 at Radio City Music Hall, with the ceremony airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. beginning at 8 PM ET. Wicked film star and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo is set to host.

Fierstein's four previous Tony wins were for 1982's Torch Song Trilogy, both as a playwright in the Best Play category and as an actor winning Best Leading Actor in a Play; for the book of 1983's La Cage aux Folles; and Best Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance as Edna Turnblad in 2002's Hairspray. As a bookwriter and playwright, he's also been represented on Broadway with Kinky BootsNewsiesCasa ValentinaA Catered AffairLegs Diamond, and, most recently, a revised book for Funny Girl.

The Tony Awards are produced in collaboration with Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of the American Theatre Wing and The Broadway League, and White Cherry Entertainment. Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss are executive producers and showrunners for White Cherry Entertainment. Weiss will serve as director.

The American Theatre Wing鈥檚 Tony Awards are presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. At the Broadway League, Kristin Caskey is chair, and Jason Laks is president. At the American Theatre Wing, Emilio Sosa is chair, and Heather Hitchens is president and CEO.
