Broadway News How Andrew Rannells and Jim Parsons Keep Things Interesting Onstage in The Boys in the Band The Tony nominee shares details of onstage fun between him and his co-star鈥攑lus what to expect from his memoir.

鈥淟et me be clear. I am a professional,鈥� Tony nominee Andrew Rannells told Stephen Colbert when he stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert July 9. 鈥淏ut I like to have fun at work...and luckily for me, Jim Parsons also likes to have fun at work.鈥�

About halfway into their run of The Boys in the Band at Broadway鈥檚 Booth Theatre, Rannells and Parsons like to see how much information they can exchange onstage without anyone knowing.

鈥淭he other day he came into my room and he said, 鈥楢ndrew, I just heard the craziest thing on the radio. Bryce Dallas Howard is going to be on American Ninja Warrior. Is that possible? Is she competing?鈥� And I was like, 鈥楲et me Google, and I'll tell you onstage,鈥� Rannells said. 鈥淪o when I walk onstage and he hugs me hello and other people are chatting and I was hugging him and I said, 'She's not a contestant. It's a cross-promotion for Jurassic Park. She鈥檚 not competing, she's hosting.'鈥�

鈥淲e like to challenge each other,鈥� he joked.

Colbert also asked Rannells about his upcoming memoir. 鈥淚 get a lot of kids at the stage door who are asking me, 鈥榃hat鈥檚 the shortcut?鈥� I did not have a real ease into the business. It was a lot of years of scrapping around New York,鈥� he explained. His memoir will explore some of the jobs and experiences he had prior to breaking big in the business as Elder Price in The Book of Mormon.

鈥淢y lowest job was I was a greeter at the Warner Brothers store. I had to say, 鈥榃elcome to the Warner Brothers Store, eight floors of fun.鈥欌�
