NYU Skirball has announced its 2017鈥�2018 season, featuring 45 events across theatre, music, dance, and multimedia. Included in the lineup is the New York premiere of the Hypocrites鈥� immersive Pirates of Penzance, complete with tiki bar, beach balls, and singing pirates.
The theatre programming also includes Gob Squad: War and Peace and Teatro La Re-Sentida: The Dictatorship of Coolness.
This fall, Chicago theatre company The Hypocrites will offer New York audiences the chance to see Gilbert and Sullivan鈥檚 Pirates of Penzance like never before鈥攕et on a beach/stage, surrounded by swimming pools, twinkly lights, and a well-stocked Tiki bar. Performances will run November 29鈥揇ecember 10.
Next spring, Berlin鈥檚 Gob Squad will take over the Skirball with its unique interpretation of Tolstoy鈥檚 War and Peace. Set in a literary salon where a never-ending parade of characters dance, dine, and duel, the production combines live theatre, audience participation, and video. Performances will run March 28鈥揂pril 1, 2018.
Also slated for the spring is the American premiere of The Dictatorship of Coolness, performed in Spanish with supertitles. Inspired by Moliere鈥檚 The Misanthrope, the social satire from Chilean collective La Re-sentida comments on art, culture, and society. Performances will run April 5鈥�7, 2018.
