Casting has been revealed for Powerhouse Theater's 39th Season at Vassar. The summer program unites influential theatrical voices and the next generation of artists through their Powerhouse Theater Training Program.
Powerhouse will present international artist Drita Kabashi (Little Ukraine) in Sara Farrington's solo show, A Trojan Woman, directed by Meghan Finn. It will run July 25-July 27.
A workshop presentation of Jocelyn Kuritsky鈥檚 Webby Award-honored podcast A Simple Herstory will be staged in a workshop presentation July 5 and 6. It will be led by Cecil Baldwin (Welcome to Night Vale), Jake Hart, Kate MacCluggage (Left on Tenth), and Colleen Werthman (The Daily Show with Trevor Noah).
A devised workshop production The Chamber written by Members of Hook and Eye Theater will run July 11-July 13, directed by Carrie Heitman. It will feature Parnia Ayari, Cynthia Babak, Rina Dutta, Meghan Grover, Nile Harris, Elizabeth London, Nylda Mark, Rahmell Peebles, and Jeffrey Robb.
Casting has also been announced for Powerhouse's Free Readings productions. Medea and Her Sons, written by Peter Gil-Sheridan and directed by Alex Tobey, will star Greg Balla, Joyce Cohen, Tommy Heleringer, Annie Henk, and Kelley Rae O鈥橠onnell. It will be presented June 20.
The Tank鈥檚 It Is Right to Rebel!, written by Andy Boyd and directed by Zinc Tong, will star Angela Chew, Claro De Los Reyes, Elijah Guo, Wai Ching Ho, Kenneth Lee, and Michael Liu. It will be presented June 21.
Theatre East鈥檚 Untitled, Unknown Artist(s), written by Petra Brusiloff and directed by Christa Kimlicko Jones, will star Elizabeth Jarrett, Matthew Napoli, Madeleine Pedersen, China Pharr, and Meggy Hai Trang. It will be presented June 22.
The Leah Ryan Fund鈥檚 In The Bronx Brown Girls Can See Stars Too (or The F*ck Is You Lookin' At?), written by Amalia Oliva Rojas and directed by Marina Montesanti,will star Essence Brown, Christin Eve Cato, Sarah-Michele Guei, Victoria Lino, Amaya Monta帽ez, Elizabeth Spindler and Malaika Wanjiku. It will be presented June 28.
Two-time Tony Award nominee Alex Brightman and Drew Gasparini's It鈥檚 Kind of a Funny Story, directed by Sarna Lapine, will feature Abe Goldfarb, Ann Harada, Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart, Jim Poulos, and Jayae Riley Jr. Casting is by Jenny Ravitz. Additional casting will be announced soon. The work will be presented July 18 and 19.
The Holes, written and directed by Job creative team duo Max Wolf Friedlich and Michael Herwitz, will star Kyle Beltran, Ben Levi Ross, and Dominic Sessa. Additional casting will be announced soon. The play will be presented July 19 and 20.
Newly added to the Powerhouse Season is the third installment of Performing Art, conceived and directed by Liz Dahmen. It will feature Covenant Babatunde, Kate Budney, Uma Incrocci), Clae Rountree, and Julia Sosas.
Since 1985, Powerhouse has welcomed artists and students of the highest caliber to the Vassar College campus, including Lynn Nottage, John Patrick Shanley, Taylor Mac, Sarah DeLappe, and more.
