In a Sept. 17 statement Minnelli said, "I am overwhelmed with the amount of love and caring that has been sent my way from all over the world."
Post columnist first reported the news about Minnelli, who was unable to attend friend ' funeral due to her back condition.
Minnelli previously told Adams, "I couldn鈥檛 go to Joan Rivers鈥� funeral, which I desperately wanted to because I loved her 鈥� but I couldn鈥檛 go because I can鈥檛 walk. I鈥檓 in bed. Going in for surgery.
"I broke my lower back. Remember a few years ago I was in a wheelchair because I had trouble with my spine? They operated on it then. Well, now, again. They鈥檒l have to fuse it.
"I was picking up my dogs 鈥� and they jumped. And I got twisted and fell. I thought it鈥檚 nothing. But it wasn鈥檛 nothing. It became something. After an X-ray, seems I busted it and have to have it fused. The operation鈥檚 next week."
Liza Minnelli won Tony Awards for her performances in ; and . She also received a 1974 Special Tony Award for "adding lustre to the Broadway season."
