Stage and screen star Liza Minnelli, reports, will make her long-awaited debut on RuPaul's Drag Race later this month.
Host RuPaul will present the EGOT winner with the show's Giving Us Lifetime Achievement Award during the finale of the 17th season, set to air April 18 on. Bob Mackie and Cassandra Peterson (Elvira) are previous recipients of the award, given to those who have made a significant impact on drag and fashion.
Although Minnelli has not previously appeared on the show, several contestants have impersonated the Cabaret star, including Alexis Michelle, Scarlett Bobo, Hannah Conda, and La Voix. Contestants currently competing for the $200,000 grand prize include Sam Star, Suzie Toot, Onya Nurve, Jewels Sparkles, and Lexi Love.
Among the former RuPaul's Drag Race contestants who have appeared on Broadway are Jinkx Monsoon (Chicago, the upcoming Pirates! The Penzance Musical); Peppermint (Head Over Heels); Marty Lauter, a.k.a. Marcia Marcia Marcia (Cabaret); and Dwayne Cooper, formerly Milan (Floyd Collins).
Minnelli won Tony Awards for her performances in Flora, The Red Menace and The Act and was also Tony-nominated for her work in The Rink. She also received a Special Tony in 1974 "for adding lustre to the Broadway season." Her other Broadway credits include Liza's at the Palace鈥�, Minnelli on Minnelli, Victor/Victoria, Chicago, and Liza.
