The original run of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Broadway opened January 27, 1982, playing 747 performances at the Royale Theatre (Now the Bernard B. Jacobs). With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, the musical follows the biblical tale of the title character who is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers. Bill Hutton originated the role of Joseph and Laurie Beechman was the Narrator, for which they both received Tony nominations.
