Mamma Mia! Tony nominee Louise Pitre will play Edith Piaf opposite Carly Street as Marlene Dietrich in The Angel and the Sparrow, which will run April 15鈥揗ay 6 at the Segal Theatre in Montreal. The play is based on the real-life friendship between the two iconic performers.
The Angel and the Sparrow is directed by Gordon Greenberg, who helmed Holiday Inn on Broadway last season.
The Montreal run marks the English-language premiere of the play with music by Daniel Gro脽e Boymann and Thomas Kahry that premiered in Vienna in 2014. Erin Shields adapted the English-language version from a translation by Sam Madwar.
The cast will also include Joe Mathson and Lucinda Davis. The play uses more than 20 songs associated with Dietrich and Piaf, including 鈥淟a Vie En Rose,鈥� 鈥淢ilord,鈥� 鈥淲here Have All the Flowers Gone,鈥� and 鈥淣on, Je Ne Regrette Rien.鈥�
Jonathan Monro is musical director on a team that includes set designer Martin Ferland, costume designer Louise Bourret, and lighting designer Claude Accolas.
