Off-Broadway's WP Theater has revealed the residents for their 2025 Space Program, which offers discounted space rates and affordable producing options to individual artists and small budget not-for-profit companies who might otherwise not be able to produce because of the financial constraints of renting performance spaces.
The first of the residents will be Crystal Skillman鈥檚 award winning play, Open, which will make its Off-Broadway debut July 8-27. The production previously had a sold-out run at The Tank where it received critical acclaim.
Open is a queer love story told by an amateur magician as she attempts the impossible鈥攖o resurrect her girlfriend. The upcoming production will be directed by Jessi D. Hill (Small, The Ask) and star Megan Hill (The Suffragette鈥檚 Murder, The Ants). The work is produced by Midnight Theatricals in association with The Tank, with support from The Fiordellisi-Williams Foundation, and is a New Georges Supported Production.
The second resident will be Olivia Dennehy-Basile鈥檚 Sea Glass, which will make its world premiere through the program August 16-30. Set over the course of a fall semester in 1979, teenage sisters Imogen and Anne Kilcullen struggle with Catholic school nuns, their mom's limited cash fund, and the boys who live next door, all the while trying to survive their mother and father's prolonged absence from their Long Island home. Lily Mannon is producing, with creative team and casting to be announced.
