Hairspray, the 2002 Tony Award-winning musical about a teen who will stop at nothing to achieve her dreams and try to change the world, came to life as a live television event December 7 on NBC.

Newcomer Maddie Baillio, who was plucked from an open call attended by over 1,000 hopefuls, stars as Tracy Turnblad. She is joined by Tony Award winner , recreating his Tony-winning Broadway role as Edna Turnblad, as well as Chenoweth as Velma Von Tussle, as Prudy Pingleton, Ariana Grande as Penny Pingleton, as Seaweed J. Stubbs, Shahadi Wright Joseph as Little Inez, Hayes as Mr. Pinky, Rosie O鈥橠onnell as the gym teacher, Paul Vogt as Mr. Spritzer, Derek Hough as Corny Collins, Garrett Clayton as Link Larkin, as Wilbur Turnblad, Oscar winner as Motormouth Maybelle, and Billy Eichner as Baltimore TV newscaster Rob Barker.
The Dynamites are played by Kamilah Marshall, Judine Somerville, and Shayna Steele, who originated the roles in the Broadway production. Their singing voices are also heard in the film musical adaptation.
