The Cape Playhouse has announced the lineup of productions for its 2025 summer season, which will run June 4鈥揝eptember 20 at the Dennis, Massachusetts, venue.
The season will kick off with Alan Janes' Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, which charts rock 'n' roll pioneer Buddy Holly's meteoric rise to fame. Meredith McDonough will direct the production, with performances set to run June 4鈥�21.
Jonathan Larson's Tony and Pulitzer-winning Rent will follow, slated for June 25鈥揓uly 12. Chip Miller will direct the musical about a found family of artists in the bohemian New York underworld of the 1990s.
From July 16鈥揂ugust 2, the Playhouse will stage Anastasia in association with Bucks County Playhouse. Eric Rosen will direct the musical, which features a book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty.
Next in the season will be Come From Away, running August 6鈥�30 and directed by Tony nominee Kelly Devine. With a book, music, and lyrics by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, plus orchestrations by August Eriksmoen, the musical tracks the events that unfolded when 38 planes were diverted to the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, on September 11, 2001.
The season will close with JOAN, a new play honoring the career of late comedy icon Joan Rivers. The work is written by Daniel Goldstein and will be directed by Tye Blue, with performances set for September 3鈥�20. JOAN is executive produced by Melissa Rivers and Larry Amoros, with Amoros also serving as script supervisor. Originally produced by South Coast Repertory, JOAN is presented with permission from Mills Entertainment, LLC in association with Sheboygan Productions, LLC.
