George will step into the role of Billy Flynn for a seven-week limited engagement at the Ambassador Theatre through Feb. 28.
George will be making his Broadway debut following stage appearances in such works as Matthew Lopez鈥檚 The Whipping Man (Nashville Repertory Theatre), 鈥� Topdog/Underdog (Amun Ra Theatre) and in the title roles of both Othello and Julius Caesar at the Nashville Shakespeare Festival. George won the Heisman Trophy in 1995 while playing for Ohio State University. That honor served as the prelude to a nine-year career in the NFL, which saw him lead the Tennessee Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV and selected to the Pro Bowl four consecutive years, finishing his career with the Dallas Cowboys under coach Bill Parcells.
The revival of Chicago began life as one of the three annual Encores! presentations offered by City Center. The musical opened on Broadway at the Theatre in November 1996 where it remained through February 1997. The musical transferred to the Shubert Theatre on Feb. 11, 1997, and played at that house through Jan. 26, 2003. The revival reopened at the Ambassador Theatre, its current home, on Jan. 29, 2003.
Chicago won the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical in 1997 as well as awards for actors and , director , lighting designer and choreographer . The original production was directed and choreographed by the late .
