Olyphant was last seen on the Off-Broadway stage in the 1996 David Sedaris comedy The Santaland Diaries. In Lonergan's newest work, Hold On To Me Darling, he will play a world-famous country and western star returning to his Tennessee hometown. He will be joined by Adelaide Clemens, Tony nominee , , and .
Helmed by artistic director , performances are set to begin Feb. 24 at 鈥檚 Linda Gross Theater. An opening night is scheduled for March 14.
"On learning of his mother鈥檚 death, world famous country and western star Strings McCrane (Olyphant) begins questioning the meaning of his life and what it all adds up to," state production notes. "Determined to abandon his celebrity and career, he moves back to his hometown in Tennessee. It doesn鈥檛 go well. This compelling new play from acclaimed playwright Kenneth Lonergan examines the costs of fame, fortune and narcissism in pursuit of the American Dream."
Playwright and screenwriter Lonergan's plays include the Tony-nominated and Pulitzer Prize finalist The Waverly Gallery, among others.
