Actor Mallory Bechtel matriculated to Broadway鈥檚 Dear Evan Hansen straight out of high school.
The 2018 graduate now plays teen Zoe Murphy in the 2017 Tony-winning Best Musical, where she brings her own stamp to songs like 鈥淩equiem鈥� and 鈥淥nly Us.鈥�
But each night, before she takes the stage at the Music Box Theatre, Bechtel listens to music to get in the zone.
鈥淢y list of pre-show jams more than anything is very subject to change,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 have a massive playlist on Spotify that I鈥檓 always adding songs to, and I usually will just press shuffle and keep skipping until I find the songs that are gonna pump me up.鈥�
While Dear Evan Hansen deals with serious subjects, Bechtel鈥檚 soundtrack is full of upbeat tunes. 鈥淚t鈥檚 easier to attack if I鈥檓 in a good mood,鈥� she says. 鈥淚 tend to enjoy more jazzy/bluesy/funky songs, but truly, I love anything that make my toes tap!鈥�
