Opera superstar and Broadway alum Ren茅e Fleming has set two concert broadcasts for IMAX theatres worldwide. Each themed around a city with powerful connections to art and music, the films also include Fleming taking audiences to special locations that are part of the city's cultural scene. The Ren茅e Fleming's Cities That Sing series will begin with Paris September 18, followed by Venice October 30.
The September 18 premiere of Ren茅e Fleming's Cities That Sing - Paris will include a one-time-only conversation between Fleming and Kelsey Grammer, broadcast live from New York's AMC Lincoln Square IMAX theatre beginning at 3 PM ET. Repeat screenings of Paris are planned for September 21.
"My life has taken me to some of the most magical cities around the globe, with legendary opera houses and centuries of musical history," says Fleming in a statement. "It鈥檚 thrilling to bring these places鈥攁nd their glorious music鈥攖o audiences with the immersive power and scale of IMAX."
Paris features Fleming singing at Th茅芒tre du Ch芒telet, joined by special guest stars Piotr Beczala, Axelle Fanyo, and Alexandre Duhamel. Fleming takes audiences to influential spots in Paris, joined by couturier Alexis Mabille and director Robert Carsen.
The Venice entry will see Fleming joined by Francesco Meli, Mattia Olivieri, and Paola Gardina on the stage of the Teatro La Fenice. Fleming's tour of the Italian city sees her visiting both land and sea destinations, joined by La Fenice Artistic Director Fortunato Ortombina and orchestra conductor Riccardo Frizza.
Directed by Fran莽ois-Ren茅 Martin, the films are a production of , which filmed the series using IMAX-certified cameras specifically for IMAX screens. Tripp Hornick and Elmar Kruse produced, with Jason Richmond, John Turner, and Bruce H. Lipnick serving as executive producers.
Additional entries in the Cities That Sing series will be announced in the coming months.
Best known as one of the opera world's most renowned singers, Fleming made her Broadway debut in 2015's Living On Love, returning to the Main Stem in 2018 to play the "You'll Never Walk Alone"-singing Nettie Fowler in Carousel, for which she received a Tony Award nomination.
