The world premiere run of Anna K. Jacobs and Michael R. Jackson's Teeth officially opened Off-Broadway March 19, and the reviews are rolling in. The new musical was originally scheduled to open March 12, before being delayed by cast illness. Performances began February 21 at Playwrights Horizons, where the run will continue through April 14.
Based on the 2007 horror comedy film of the same name, Teeth follows evangelical Christian teenager Dawn O'Keefe, whose body bites back when men try to violate her. Sarah Benson directs and Raja Feather Kelly choreographs the work, which explores the battling forces of sexuality and religion, revenge and transformation. Lyrics are by Jackson, music is by Jacobs, and the book was penned by both. It is presented by Playwrights Horizons in special arrangement with Mark Gordon Pictures and LD Entertainment.
