News Shuler Hensley and Mandy Gonzalez Were Part of Reading of Sting Musical, Based on Classic Film A reading of the new musical The Sting, based on the 1973 film of the same name, was held in Manhattan at the beginning of the month, according to the New York Post.

As , , a Tony Award winner for the book of , has teamed up with Tony-winning writers and to adapt the film for Broadway.

The reading, according to the New York daily, featured Tony winner and as, respectively, the mob boss and Billie. , who won the 2002 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical, directed. The collaboration was first announced in May 2014.

In addition to the brand-new score, the musical does feature the film's most memorable tune, 's arrangement of 's "The Entertainer."

"The Sting," written by David S. Ward and directed by , took home seven 1974 Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing, Best Art Direction, Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing and Best Music.

The film, set in Depression-era Chicago, starred and as professional grifters who con a mob boss (Robert Shaw).

A timeline for the new musical has not been announced.
