Here, via email, we hear from two-time Tony nominee , who will co-star in the New York City Center Encores! staging of the 1951 Lerner and Loewe musical Paint Your Wagon, which will be presented March 18-22.
What show recently impressed you?
I was very impressed with , but I鈥檓 prejudiced there because my daughter [] played Julia. That鈥檚 the most recent thing I鈥檝e seen.
What production are you most excited to see?
I understand that what I should see, if I ever get the chance, is Hamilton. I hear that it鈥檚 just sublime. I hope I get to see it.
What play/musical would you most like to revive on Broadway, and which role would you want to play?
Well, certainly Paint Your Wagon has been on my list, and now here we are doing that鈥.. It鈥檚 not a Broadway revival, but it is a revival of the music, and the score is going to be presented in an amazing, incomparable way, with a 31-piece orchestra and a huge cast of 30 performers. It鈥檚 going to be remarkable. Apart from Paint Your Wagon, there are other things that are floating around that will always have a special place in my heart. I know I鈥檓 not British, but I always thought I could play Higgins in . And, I鈥檇 love to play Arthur in if that were ever to come back. Those are both British-centric musicals, but I think they are terrific. They are on my list.
What are your current/upcoming projects?
I鈥檓 presently working on 鈥淢adame Secretary鈥 playing President Conrad Dalton, and I have an independent film I just finished with Malcolm McDowell and called "Bereave" that鈥檚 now making the festival circuit. At this point, that鈥檚 all I know about.
