半岛体育鈥檚 new photo series Inside the Theatre captures the dazzling architecture and unseen details of the world鈥檚 most famous theatres, taking you inside all 41 of the currently operating Broadway houses.
The John Golden Theatre opened in 1927 as the Theatre Masque, designed by Herbert J. Krapp for the Chanin brothers. In 1930, the Chanins transferred ownership of the venue to The Shubert Organization. Producer John Golden bought the theatre in 1937 and named it after himself before the Shuberts took back control in 1946.
The John Golden Theatre remains active today and set a house record with the 2,534-performance run of Avenue Q.

Originally named the Theatre Masque, the Golden Theatre was built by the Chanin Brothers, opening in 1927 with a production of Puppets of Passion.
The Masque was designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp as part of the Chanin Brother鈥檚 three-theater complex, including the Majestic Theatre and Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
When it opened, the Chanins announced that it aimed to be 鈥渢he home of fine plays of the 鈥榓rtistic鈥� or 鈥榠ntimate鈥� type,鈥� featuring a small 800 seat auditorium.
In 1930, the Shuberts acquired ownership of the intimate venue.
In 1937, the Masque became the John Golden Theatre, making it the third house named after the illustrious theatrical producer following the 58th Street Theatre as well as the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
Throughout its history, the Golden Theatre stage has featured the work of legendary actors including James Earl Jones, Vanessa Redgrave, and more.
Numerous productions made their Tony Award winning Broadway debut at the Golden Theatre including Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx's Avenue Q, Edward Albee鈥檚 The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia?, Terrence McNally's Master Class, and more.

The upcoming Broadway production of Edward Albee's Three Tall Women is set to arrive at the Golden Theatre February 27.
Edward Albee鈥檚 Three Tall Women will be the next show to play at the John Golden Theatre, set to open March 29. The show will star Tony nominee Alison Pill, two-time Oscar winner Glenda Jackson, and Tony winner Laurie Metcalf.
