The Tony Award-winning 2015 Broadway revival of The King and I is eyeing a June 2018 West End bow at the Palladium Theatre, according to a of the Daily Mail. Talk of a London transfer has been ongoing since the production played Lincoln Center Theater.
It is also likely that the revival鈥檚 original co-stars, Tony Award winner Kelli O鈥橦ara and Tony nominee Ken Watanabe, will repeat their performances in the London staging.
The Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II musical, based on the life of Anna Leonowens as well as Margaret Landon's 1944 novel Anna and the King of Siam, includes classics such as 鈥淗ello Young Lovers,鈥� 鈥淚 Whistle a Happy Tune,鈥� 鈥淪hall We Dance?,鈥� and 鈥淕etting To Know You.鈥�
The revival, directed by Bartlett Sher, opened April 16, 2015, at the Vivian Beaumont Theater and won the Tony Award as Best Revival of a Musical. O鈥橦ara and Ruthie Ann Miles additionally won Tonys for their performances as Anna and Ladi Thiang.
