Tyne Daly is on the road to a full recovery following a recent hospitalization, . The Tony-winning actor was unexpectedly hospitalized due to an undisclosed illness February 2.
, Daly's illness caused her to exit the upcoming Broadway revival of John Patrick Shanley's Doubt, which began previews February 3 at the Todd Haimes Theatre. Understudy Isabel Keating took over for Daly for the first week of the show's run. Then Tony and Oscar nominee Amy Ryan (Only Murders in the Building) stepped into the role of Sister Aloysius full-time beginning February 13. Opening night, initially scheduled for February 29, has been postponed to March 7.
"On behalf of the cast and crew of Doubt, and the entire Roundabout family, we are elated that Tyne is on the mend and on her way to a full recovery," Doubt director and Roundabout Interim Artistic Director Scott Ellis told People.
In a previous statement, Ellis said, "With respect and admiration for Tyne, we wish her the best and a quick recovery. We are grateful that Amy Ryan said yes鈥攊n a quick minute鈥攖o join our company and take on the role of Sister Aloysius. We deeply appreciate Isabel Keating, who remarkably stepped in with a day of rehearsal and allowed us to get the production up on its feet during this first week of performances."
Doubt: A Parable opened at the Walter Kerr Theatre March 31, 2005, and ran for over a year. It was nominated for eight Tony Awards, winning four, including Best Play; Best Actress for ; Best Featured Actress for , who played the mother of the student; and Best Direction for . Shanley was also awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The work received a film adaptation in 2008 starring , , Amy Adams, and , all receiving Academy Award nominations for their performances.
Set in an all-boys Catholic school in the Bronx, the drama ensues when the strict Sister Aloysius begins to suspect an inappropriate relationship between Father Flynn and a student. The cast features Liev Scheiber as Father Flynn, alongside as Sister James and as Mrs. Muller. Rounding out the company are understudies , , Isabel Keating, and . Casting is by and .
Ellis leads a creative team that includes scenic designer , lighting designer , costume designer , sound designer , hair and wig designer , and vocal coach . serves as the production stage manager.
In addition to Doubt, Roundabout's season also includes Jonah, currently running Off-Broadway, and Home, which begins at the Todd Haimes Theatre May 17.
