A new stage production of Disney鈥檚 animated classic Beauty and the Beast鈥攊nspired by the hit live action film remake鈥攚ill premiere on the Disney Dream cruise ship this fall. Take a look at a behind-the-scenes video above.
Songs from the original 1991 animated feature are complimented by 鈥淗ow Does a Moment Last Forever鈥 and 鈥淒ays in the Sun,鈥 both from the 2017 live action film starring Emma Watson and Dan Stevens.
According to Disney, the new immersive concept uses the motif of a music box to 鈥渢ake audiences on a magical journey through the music box, from Belle鈥檚 provincial French town to the Beast鈥檚 mysterious castle.鈥
Disney has also revealed that the show鈥檚 enchanted characters, including Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and more, will incorporate innovative puppetry designs and elaborate costuming to bring them to life.
Director-choreographer Connor Gallagher (Tangled: The Musical, Found) leads a creative team that includes writer Sara Wordsworth, set designer Jason Sherwood, and video designer Aaron Rhyne鈥攁ll three of whom collaborated on Disney Cruise Line's Frozen show. The team also features puppet designer Jeff Conover, costume designer Sarah Cubbage, and Tony-nominated lighting designer Japhy Weideman. Arrangements and orchestrations are by Matt Castle and Frank Galgano.
Video designer Rhyne, whose work on Anastasia, pulls audiences into the scenes, has created high-definition projections that will be used alongside the show鈥檚 scenic elements to 鈥渃reate a visual panorama that reaches beyond the stage and into the audience
Beauty and the Beast will debut on the Disney Dream November 7.
