Broadway's Maybe Happy Ending made its late-night TV debut on The Tonight Show March 3, with the full cast (led by Darren Criss and Helen J Shen, and also featuring Dez Duron and Marcus Choi) joining to perform "Why Love?" and "When You're in Love" from the new musical. The musical continues its run at the Belasco Theatre, where it opened November 12, 2024. Tony winner Michael Arden directs. Read the reviews here. A Broadway cast album is due March 14 from Ghostlight Records.
Shen and Criss star as, respectively, Claire and Oliver, South Korea-based Helperbots that have been deemed obsolete. The pair form an unlikely bond, setting off a surprising and romantic adventure. The music is by Aronson with lyrics by Park and a book by Park and Aronson.
The cast also includes Choi as James and Junseo, Duron as Gil Brentley, Arden Cho as Jiyeon, Young Mazino as Suhan, and Jim Kaplan as Young Junseo. Understudies Hannah Kevitt, Steven Huynh, Christopher James Tamayo, Claire Kwon, and Daniel May round out the company. Casting is by Telsey & Co's Craig Burns.
