Film & TV News Watch the Trailer for Hulu's Mid-Century Modern, Starring Nathan Lane, Linda Lavin

The series is set to premiere March 28, and marks the final performance of Lavin, who passed away unexpectedly last December.

Hulu has released a trailer for its multi-camera comedy series Mid-Century Modern, which stars Tony winner Nathan Lane, Matt Bomer, Nathan Lee Graham, and late Tony winner Linda Lavin. The series is set to premiere March 28.

The series, inspired by Golden Girls, follows best friends (played by Lane, Bomer, and Graham) who decide to live together after the death of a fellow friend. They share their Palm Springs residence with Lane's mother, Sybil, played by Lavin.

The new comedy is from Ryan Murphy and Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick; Kohan and Mutchnick penned the pilot, which was directed by James Burrows.

Lavin passed away suddenly December 29, 2024. At the time of her death, the series was not yet complete, and her passing was written into the show. "This week at 'Mid Century Modern' we filmed an episode I never thought we'd have to write," Mutchnik in January. "'Here's to you Mrs Schneiderman.' Saying goodbye to the character of Sybil was painful. Saying goodbye to Linda Lavin was heartbreaking."

As previously reported, Bomer will play an intellectually challenged former Mormon named Jerry Frank, who is roommate to the smarter, more sarcastic Bunny Schneiderman (Lane), the wealthiest of the three. Graham plays a fashion industry veteran named Arthur.

Mutchnick and Kohan have made their careers solely in Hollywood thus far, while Murphy was part of the producing team behind Broadway's 2016 revival of Long Day's Journey Into Night and 2018's The Boys in the Band (which co-starred Bomer). Murphy also brought Broadway's The Prom to the screen in a 2020 film adaptation for Netflix.

Co-stars Lane and Bomer are the executive producers behind Mid-Century Modern alongside Mutchnick, Kohan, Burrows, and Murphy.
