As the show plays its final week on Broadway, Indecent producer Daryl Roth, star Richard Topol, and Tony-winning director Rebecca Taichman sat down with Charlie Rose to discuss the roots of the 2017 Tony-nominated Best Play by Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel.
The play marks Vogel鈥檚 Broadway debut and Taichman鈥檚 Broadway directorial debut in a story about Sholom Asch鈥檚 play, The God of Vengeance.

鈥淚 love the play; it stands for so many things I care about, but also Paula had never been produced on Broadway,鈥� Roth tells Rose, 鈥渁nd I felt as though it would be important on so many levels to bring this play to Broadway.鈥�
鈥淚 was determined to be a caretaker of this memory,鈥� says Taichman of her motivation to tell the story of the trial and circumstances that surrounded God of Vengeance鈥檚 opening on Broadway. 鈥�Indecent tells the story of this one piece of art, this play, as this optic to look through this period of turbulent history. It鈥檚 an incredible way to look at this swath of American and Jewish history through this one piece of art.
鈥淯ltimately, I think the story of the play is one that calls out to courage and speaking out in times of hatred, in times of real danger and creating art against all odds,鈥� says Taichman. Watch the full interview below.
