DESCRIPTION

Basic Function

Reporting to the Director of Production, the Head Audio Technician, Carnival Studio Theater (CST) will supervise the load-in, set up, running and load-out of all audio for Carnival Studio Theater stage productions. The role involves collaborating with the Production department to discuss daily schedules and determine the safest and most efficient use of crew and resources. Strong managerial skills are required to lead, supervise, and work effectively as part of a team with all employees and users of the Center.

Responsibilities

  • Set-up and run audio for all performances and events
  • Assist with supervision of all audio/sound needs related to mounting productions and events
  • Supervise and run Audio crews for load-ins, load-outs and runs.
  • Adhere to and enforce all IATSE Local 500 regulations
  • Work with Production department reviewing technical riders and schedules
  • Keep accurate records and organization of sound inventory
  • Perform routine maintenance of all audio equipment and systems
  • Prepare and process forms for equipment repairs, and procurement
  • Act as Audio Head as needed in ancillary spaces throughout the arts center.
  • In coordination with the Production Manager and CST Technical Director, assess and keep Audio department in working order, well organized and stocked
  • Coordinate inspections, repairs, and maintenance of audio equipment and systems
  • Maintain safe working conditions
  • Have a professional demeanor at all times

Ideal Experience

  • Must be proficient in the operation of a Yamaha CL5 console
  • Experience with computer playback systems including QLab.
  • Proficient in mixing sound for various performances in a professional venue (theatre, music, dance, family performances and special events)
  • Must be able to Line Mix
  • Basic hands-on knowledge of carpentry and rigging a plus
  • Experience working with and running union crews
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment
  • Comfortable working at heights as the CST has a suspension grid above the stage
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with internal and external colleagues in a positive and constructive manner
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Must be well organized
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
  • Experience with Audio software, including DANTE
  • Degree in Technical Theater or equivalent working experience in theatrical production, minimum three years.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, communicate, and use repetitive motions.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee may frequently lift and or move 50 pounds of materials.
  • The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from multiple people and interact with the public and other staff.
