DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Lighting Director/Asst. Production Manager position for the McKnight Center for the Performing Arts (MCPA) will oversee and/or collaborate on Lighting matters on events for the MCPA, The Greenwood School of Music (GSM) as well as outside rental client events in the facility. On occasion this may include McKnight related events staged in other locations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

鈥� Coordinate and supervise the operation of lighting equipment/elements for the MCPA, GSM and rental clients

鈥� Interpret touring company technical riders and coordinate advance needs with MCPA Production Manager

鈥� Serve as the lighting designer in cases where touring productions do not travel with a dedicated designer

鈥� Work with Events and Production Managers Interpret the technical/equipment needs for external clients

鈥� Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of production related lighting systems, technical equipment, and facilities to maintain the readiness of stages, support areas, and technical systems

鈥� Supervise hired crew for assigned event or maintenance activities

鈥� Coordinate and supervise spot booth operating staff

鈥� Provide training as needed for lighting assistants and stagehands

鈥� Ensure safety of equipment specific to the department

鈥� Serve as alternate Production Manager as assigned for MCPA, GSM and client events

鈥� Serve as Head of House Electrics and House Electrician as needed

鈥� Assist in the creation of department specific annual budgets

鈥� Other duties as assigned

JOB COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE:

High School with general theater and performance knowledge and instruction required.

Bachelor鈥檚 degree in technical theater, music business or another related field preferred.

Minimum 2 years proven work experience and demonstrated excellent verbal and written skills.

Preference is given for successful experience within the production field of at least 5 years or more.

Stellar organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to schedule priorities to maximize efficiency and institutional goals

Ability to work with a broad spectrum of personalities and to exhibit patience and understanding

Working knowledge of ETC lighting control consoles and dimmers

Working knowledge of traditional and modern lighting fixtures, including LEDs

Working knowledge of sound reinforcement preferred

Working knowledge of Symphony Orchestra management and production a plus

Experience creating professional lighting designs for concerts with limited prep time.

Ability to work independently and use independent judgment while keeping supervisor informed of work activity and issues

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to create routine and complex reports and documents

Ability to maintain the strictest of confidence as needed.

$50,000.00 – $60,000.00 per year
