SYNOPSIS: To achieve her goal to become a significant American artist, Lois Mailou Jones had to battle racism, sexism, and the conditions of the art market at home. Her mother, her Haitian husband, and her French friend gave her a secure base where she could strategize successes, cope with defeats, and embrace the making of her unique work.

SEEKING:
Lo茂s Mailou Jones 鈥� Black, character ages 34-70. A gifted artist and educator; attractive, spirited, charming, and hard working. Intelligent, curious, decisive, and determined. Expected much from others.
Louis Vergniaud Pierre-No毛l aka 鈥淧ierre鈥� - Lo茂s鈥檚 husband. Black, character ages 40 - 60. Haitian, but speaks French, not Creole. Charming, gentlemanly, devoted to Lois.
C茅line Tabary 鈥� (THIS ROLE IS CAST) Lois鈥檚 friend, White, character ages 30 -60. French. Gifted, a painter, lively, hard working.
Caroline Jones - Lois鈥檚 mother, Black, 60s 鈥� 70s, determined, strong, charming when she wants to be.
CHILMARK

SYNOPSIS: In nineteenth-century Chilmark, deafness was not a disability. Some people could hear, others could not. And everyone learned sign language as a matter of course. A compelling drama that premiered at MV Playhouse in 2018 about a remarkable community, based on historical events.

SEEKING:
MR. EZRA LAMBERT 鈥� 40s (hearing) Signs fluently. Owns the Chilmark General. He fought as a young man in the civil war, is illiterate. His wife died early leaving him with a young daughter to raise alone.
MISS ANNE LAMBERT 鈥� 20s (deaf) Signs fluently. Graduated from American School for the Deaf two years ago. She is an independent, forthright young woman.
CAPTAIN NATHANIEL SMITH 鈥� 40s (deaf) Signs fluently. Is a former whaling captain who lost his job. He is a survivor of horrendous hardship on the seas and has moved back to the island and is known island-wide for his vivid storytelling.
MRS. ELIZABETH ATHEARN 鈥� 50s-60s (hearing) Signs fluently. Is the widow of a prominent Islander, sells eggs, makes dresses and has a huge, warm heart 鈥渆veryone鈥檚 mother鈥�, She has been a midwife, babysitter, and nanny to more than one generation in Chilmark.
MISS SARAH HALL 鈥� (THIS ROLE IS CAST) 30s-40s (hearing) Has some signing ability. An unmarried, strong-willed woman, she has made educating the deaf to speak her mission.
UNCLE CHRIS

SYNOPSIS: Sometime between 1982 and 2022, in a building between Lexington and Park, a brother and a sister find themselves living together once again. Adapted from the letters and diaries of ghost writer Christopher Hemphill, Allison Snyder tells her uncle鈥檚 story in this zany and tender comedy about a family desperate to stay together whilst also staying apart.
