SOME LIKE IT HOT is the hit theatrical stage production of the acclaimed 1959 Billy Wilder film. Featuring a book by Tony庐 Winner Matthew Lopez and Amber Ruffin, score by Tony庐 Winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and direction and choreography by Tony庐 Winner Casey Nicholaw, SOME LIKE IT HOT opened to wide acclaim on Broadway in December 2022.
Set in prohibition era Chicago, SOME LIKE IT HOT is the glorious, big, high-kicking story of two musicians on a life-chasing, life-changing escape from the mob. The winner of 4 Tony Awards庐, the Grammy Award庐 for Best Musical Theater Album, and named Best Musical by the Drama Desk, The Drama League, and the Outer Critics Circle, SOME LIKE IT HOT will launch a North American National Tour in 2024 and a West End Production in 2025.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Props person works with the Head Props person to safely and consistently run, move, and maintain all prop elements associated with the Some like it Hot First National Tour.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Safely run the prop tracks for the show, under the supervision of the Production Stage Manager. This includes the prop pre-set for the show and all the prop cues during the performance.
- Maintain/ repair all show props to the highest standards.
- Manage local union prop crew at each show stop.
- Pack, load-out, travel, load-in, and tech all prop-elements of the show between tour stops.
- Ensure perishable props are ordered and stocked, as necessary.
- Assist Head Props with interdepartmental communication that pertains to the props department as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS
- Detail-oriented, willing to complete both complex and menial repetitive tasks with exacting precision.
- Technical Theatre experience, specifically national touring experience is a plus.
- Mastery of general hand tools, power tools, hardware, and general construction methods/practices.
- Knowledge of adhesives, faux finishing, electronics, and theatrical rigging.
- Experience in fine woodworking, furniture construction/ repair.
- Experience in sewing, garment/costume construction a plus.
- Team player, able to work long hours in very close quarters with many different types of passionate personalities.
- Willing to work in an 8-show a week schedule. Often called in for rehearsals outside of the show schedule.
- Must be able to work around loud sounds and flashing lights.
- Willingness to work in dark often cramped/ closed spaces.
- Strong ability to lead and instruct a crew of up to a dozen people, with varying skill levels.
- Able to physically lift 75 pounds, comfortable lifting and walking backwards, comfortable walking up and down stairs.
- Excellent practical, problem-solving, organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Good computer skills (Mac and PC) are a plus.
SALARY: Base Weekly Salary: $1,650 + All Applicable Overtime Per S.E.T. Pink Contract
BENEFITS: Per IATSE S.E.T. Pink Contract
TRAVEL & HOUSING: Per IATSE S.E.T. Pink Contract
START DATE: July/August 2025
