Following a summer 2024 engagement at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, the Jordan Fein-directed production of the classic American musical Fiddler on the Roof will transfer to London鈥檚 Barbican Theatre this summer, followed by a U.K. and Ireland tour.
The eight-week engagement at the Barbican will begin May 24 and
continue through July 19. The production, recently nominated for 13 Olivier Awards, also features choreography by
Julia Cheng (Cabaret) and designs by Tom Scutt (Cabaret).
Leading the company will be Regent's Park stars and current Olivier nominees Adam Dannheisser as Tevye, Lara Pulver as Golde, and Beverly Klein as Yente. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
In a statement Dannheisser, who has been seen on Broadway in Beetlejuice, Oslo, Rock of Ages, and more, said, 鈥淪o incredibly excited and grateful to have the opportunity to revisit this role, this play, this cast and team and the proud, brave world of Anatevka.鈥
The tour will subsequently launch July 24鈥26 at the Bromley Churchill Theatre and conclude November 24鈥29 at the Sunderland Empire. Visit for the current itinerary.
Fiddler on the Roof
will be the latest in a series of summer musicals at the Barbican鈥攑art
of the ongoing partnership between Trafalgar Theatre Productions and the
Barbican鈥following Anything Goes; Kiss Me, Kate; and A Strange Loop.
Producer Howard Panter said in an earlier statement, 鈥淚 saw this incredible production last summer and was immediately blown away. I'm delighted鈥攚ith our partners鈥攖o bring this masterpiece to the Barbican and on tour for what will be one of the major cultural highlights of the year. It was completely sold out during its Regent鈥檚 Park run, so this new production will give many more people the chance to see musical theatre at its very best.鈥
Based on the stories of Sholom Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof has a book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The classic musical tells the story of Tevye the milkman, who clings to the Jewish customs of Anatevka, his hometown in pre-Revolutionary Russia. As his daughters question these traditions and the world changes around them, Tevye is challenged to find a new way to learn and to love.
The original 1964 Broadway production, which played seven previews
and 3,242 regular performances, won nine Tony Awards, including those
for Best Musical and star Zero Mostel.
