Nominations for the 2025 Olivier Awards, London's top theatrical honors, were revealed March 4, with Regent's Park Open Air Theatre's summer revival of Fiddler on the Roof and Donmar Warehouse's U.K. debut of Natasha, Pierre, & The Great Comet of 1812 becoming the most recognized productions of the season. The former picked up 13 nods, including Best Musical Revival and a Best Actor in a Musical nomination for Broadway vet Adam Dannheisser, while the Dave Malloy musical took six nominations, including Best New Musical.
That last category, the awards' top prize, also included nominations for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, one of the new musical's four total nods; Broadway's MJ The Musical, one of three nominations; and Why Am I So Single?, the sole nomination for the new show from the creators of SIX The Musical. Best New Play nominations went to Lindsey Ferrentino's The Fear of 13, Mark Rosenblatt's Giant, Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson's Kyoto, Benedict Lombe's Shifters, and Eline Arbo and Stephanie Bain's The Years.
The Musical Revival category was split between American and British musicals, with nominations for Fiddler on the Roof at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre and Hello, Dolly!; and Oliver! and Starlight Express. The Play Revival category recognized The Importance of Being Earnest at the National, Machinal at The Old Vic, Oedipus at Wyndham's Theatre, and Waiting for Godot at Theatre Royal Haymarket.
Broadway vets made a nice showing with this year's nominations. A particularly heavy-hitting category in this regard was Best Actor, which saw nominations for Billy Crudup in Harry Clarke, John Lithgow for Giant, and Mark Strong for Oedipus. Nominated for Best Actor in a Musical were Beetlejuice's Adam Dannheisser for Fiddler on the Roof and Tony winner Myles Frost for MJ; Tony nominee and three-time Olivier winner Sharon D Clarke (Broadway's Caroline, Or Change and Death of a Salesman) was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her work as Lady Bracknell in The National's The Importance of Being Earnest. In creative categories, Dave Malloy and Nicholas Shilbeck were recognized in the Outstanding Musical Contribution category for their work on The Great Comet, Nicholas Hytner was nominated for his direction of Giant, Off-Broadway's 罢颈迟补苍矛辩耻别 was nominated for Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play (one of three total nods), and Christopher Wheeldon was nominated for his MJ choreography, among other Broadway nominations.
Winners will be named April 6 at a ceremony at Royal Albert Hall.
