A NYC return for The 24 Hour Musicals is set for June 26 at Classic Stage Company's Lynn F. Angelson Theater.
Annette O鈥橳oole, David Krumholtz, Molly Bernard, Sarah Steele, Morgan Siobhan Green, Genevieve Angelson, Julia Mattison, Nicole Kang, Jin Ha, Hale Appleman, Alyssa May Gold, Kim Exum, Andrew Hovelson, Matt Christian, Mallory Portnoy, and Ronald Peet comprise the acting company, with the musicals being written and composed by Amber Ruffin, David Schmoll, Michael Mitnick, Zack Zadek, Mario Correa, Lily Houghton, Libby Winters, and Will Connolly. Directing will be Okieriete Onaodowan, Jenny Koons, Will Pomerantz, and Meghan Finn, with choreographers including John Carrafa and James Alonzo White and music supervision by Ryan McCurdy. Ian Lockwood hosts.
The event sees artists coming together to write, rehearse, and perform four wholly new musicals within a 24-hour period. The process begins with an 8 PM meeting the night before the performance, after which the writers craft the musicals through the night. In the morning, actors, directors, and choreographers get to work staging the musicals, which are performed that evening for one night only.
"The 24 Hour Musicals are a quintessentially New York event," says artistic director Mark Armstrong, "and one that we鈥檝e loved having the chance to bring to artists and audiences in Los Angeles, Minneapolis, London, and more. But there鈥檚 no place like home, and next Monday promises to be one of our most intimate, special evenings of new musicals. Through the generosity of Jill Rafson and Amanda Feldman鈥攖wo of the great theatre leaders of my generation鈥The 24 Hour Musicals will take place at Classic Stage鈥檚 Lynn F. Angelson Theater. We鈥檙e lining up an incredible cast and creative team, who鈥檒l be together for one singular evening."
The event is part of an in-person return for similar events from The 24 Hour Plays. The 24 Hour Plays On Broadway鈥攚here plays are written, rehearsed, and performed in a 24-hour period鈥攔eturns October 23 for its 23rd annual event at NYC's Town Hall.
