News Best Revival Gypsy Tony Award Up for Auction Producer Barry Brown is auctioning his Tony for the 1989 revival of the classic musical, which starred Tyne Daly.

The 1990 Tony Award for Best Revival, which was awarded to lead producer Barry Brown for the 1989 revival of Gypsy, will be auctioned by Nate D. Sanders Auctions September 29.

In a handwritten note on the auction website, producer Brown says, 鈥淭o Whom It May Concern, With reference to the accompanying Tony Award, I confirm that I was (lead) producer, and was awarded the Tony at the 1990 awards ceremony.鈥�

Stephen Sondheim, Jule Styne and Arthur Laurents鈥� Gypsy was revived at the St. James Theatre in 1989. The revival was directed by Laurents and starred Tyne Daly, Jonathan Hadary and Crista Moore. At the Tony Awards, the production was awarded the Tony for Best Revival, and Daly won Best Actress in a Musical. Co-producers included Barry and Fran Weissler and Kathy Levin.

Bidding for the Tony begins at $10,000.

Brown also produced the 1974 revival of Gypsy. He was most recently represented on Broadway with the new musical Tuck Everlasting.
