The Broadway national tours of Hamilton and Bright Star, as well as a pre-Broadway engagement of The Secret Garden, will be part of Houston鈥檚 Theatre Under the Stars鈥 2017-2018 season.
TUTS will launch its season with the Broadway-bound revival of The Secret Garden, which will play Houston as part of its rolling pre-Broadway try-out October 10-22. Directed by David Armstrong, the revival is co-produced by Seattle鈥檚 5th Avenue Theatre (where it arrives this spring) and Washington, D.C.鈥檚 Shakespeare Theatre Company. The revival of the 1991 Tony-winning musical has been announced for Broadway, though no target season has been revealed.
Broadway tours also include the Steve Martin-Edie Brickell musical Bright Star (March 13鈥25), and the Lin-Manuel Miranda megahit Hamilton (May 1鈥13).
The season also includes original stagings of Sleeping Beauty and Her Winter Knight, featuring the music of Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, John Legend, Bruno Mars, and more (December 6鈥24, 2017); the Tony-winning musical Memphis (February 20鈥揗arch 4, 2018); as well as a new staging of Guys and Dolls, directed by Nick DeGruccio (June 12鈥24).
Like many theatres across the U.S., TUTS is utilizing Hamilton鈥檚 leverage to encourage subscription sales. Tickets to the TUTS Hamilton engagement are currently available only to buyers of full 2017-2018 TUTS subscriptions. Full six-show subscriptions are available for purchase only through March 31. Subscriptions sold after that date will not include the Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical.
