Broadway and cabaret producers Tom D'Angora and Michael D'Angora have launched a GoFundMe campaign aimed at raising $20,000 to support the vision care of Broadway and cabaret icon Christine Pedi.
The funds will allow Pedi to seek treatment for gradual vision loss at the Mayo Clinic, which she hopes will stabilize her condition. Pedi's insurance does not cover out-of-state care, which is why the theatrical community is now rallying around her with the crowdfunding campaign.
Those interested in contributing can find the campaign .
鈥淐hristine has given her heart and talent to the Broadway community for decades," say the D'Angoras in a statement. "She has always shown up to support her fellow artists and now, it鈥檚 our turn to support her.鈥 The D'Angoras produced Off-Broadway's long-running musical satire NEWSical, which starred Pedi. They also recently became the new owners of West Bank Cafe and the Laurie Beechman Theatre.
鈥淚 still have small patches of clear vision in my remaining good eye, but we haven鈥檛 been able to stabilize it," says Pedi. "Losing my remaining vision little by little every few days puts me in a never-ending place of grief. With this opportunity for me to go to the Mayo Clinic, they are hopeful they can determine what鈥檚 happening and help stabilize my sight.鈥
Pedi says if the GoFundMe raises more than its goal, she will donate the remainder to Broadway Cares and The Entertainment Community Fund to support their ongoing efforts to help artists like her.
