A host of theatre favorites who took the cabaret stage this past season have earned MAC Award nominations for their concert performances. The awards, presented by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets, will be presented at the 33rd annual ceremony March 26 at Sony Hall.
Broadway Princess Party, created and hosted by Tony nominee Laura Osnes (Cinderella) and music director Benjamin Rauhala, earned a nomination in the Special Production Category. The popular concert series has featured the talents of such onstage royals as Susan Egan (Beauty and the Beast), Courtney Reed (Aladdin), and Liz Callaway and Christy Altomare (Anastasia on stage and screen, respectively). Earlier this year, Osnes, Egan, and Reed took their act to the small screen Food Network's Winner Cake All.
Additional nominees include Tony nominees Norm Lewis, Tovah Feldshuh, and Anita Gillette, who comprise the Celebrity Artist category, Laura Benanti and her mother Linda (up for Major Duo/Group), and musical theatre alum Jinkx Monsoon for their recording of The Ginger Snapped with Major Scales. Monsoon was not the only drag performer to be nominated; also up for MAC Awards are Drag Race alums Alaska, BenDeLaCreme, and Mon茅t X Change, as well as Paige Turner, Chelsea Piers, and Doris Dear.
As , this year's ceremony will pay special tribute to Be More Chill composer Joe Iconis, Broadway veteran Karen Mason, and Broadway Sessions' Ben Cameron. The Hanson Award, given to a perennial cabaret performer not yet nominated for a MAC Award, will be presented to Teresa Fischer.
The MAC Awards are produced by Julie Miller and directed by Lennie Watts, with musical direction by Bobby Peaco.
