News Chess in Concert Begins Tonight Four performances of the rock musical are being offered in Temecula, CA.

The Barn Stage Company, in association with Temecula Presents, offers Chess In Concert September 1-4 at The Old Town Temecula Community Theater in Temecula, CA.

The Benny Anderson, Bj枚rn Ulvaeus (Mamma Mia!) and Tim Rice (Evita) musical is directed by J. Scott Lapp, with musical direction by John Mario Di Costanzo and choreography by April Henry.

Backed by a 25-piece orchestra, the cast features Rena Strober as Florence Vassy, Michael McCorry Rose as Anatoly Sergievsky, Louis Pardo as Freddy Trumper, Daniel Guzman as Alexander Molokov, Elizabeth Brackenbury as Svetlana, Allen Everman as Walter de Courcey and Bryan Barbarin as The Arbiter with Jerry Alexander III, Ethan Park, Kelsie Piini, Ariana Ramirez, Amanda Restivo, Shealyn Sailors, Edred Utomi and Tanner Vidos.

鈥淭he ancient game becomes a metaphor for romantic rivalries, competitive gamesmanship, super power politics and international intrigues,鈥� according to press notes. 鈥淭he pawns in this drama form a love triangle: the loutish American chess star, the earnest Russian champion and a Hungarian American female assistant who arrives at the international chess match in Bangkok with the American but falls for the Russian.鈥�

Songs from the musical, seen in London and later on Broadway, include 鈥淥ne Night in Bangkok," 鈥淚 Know Him So Well,鈥� 鈥淗eaven Help My Heart鈥� and 鈥淵ou and I.鈥�

The creative team also includes John Mario Di Costanzo (conductor/musical director), Rachel Green (choir director), Matthew Herman (scenic/projection design), Curtis Mueller (lighting design) and Erica Palay (costume design). Carmen Quinones is the stage manager.
